Electrics

A top-end electrical system makes living in this overland camper an absolute pleasure

Truck electrics

The truck runs off a 24V system and has a 55A Bosch alternator to keep the batteries topped up. Inside the cab there are 3 x 12V cigarette sockets for running accessories, such as GPS, mobile phone chargers, electric cooler box etc. There is a 24 litre Campingaz Powerbox (thermo-electric cooler box) to keep drinks cool while on the road, 2 x 12V personal fans and an iPod input to the 4x100W amplifier with 2 independantly switched midrange speakers in the cab.

Leisure electrics

All leisure electrics are 12V. Electricity for the leisure side of things is provided by 3 x 100Amp/hour deep-cycle batteries. Keeping these charged up are 3 power producing elements: 220V mains hookup, 2 x 60W solar panels and a 15 amp 24/12V converter that converts the truck's alternator output when the engine is running.

The 2 x 60W solar panels are controlled with a Steca solar charger. The 220AC mains hookup can be switched on or off as desired, and has an integrated 220V circuit breaker for controlling the 3 x 220V sockets located around the interior.

There is a 300W 220V inverter for supplementary AC power generation when not on mains hookup.

Interior lights are all LED strip lights, which are both bright and super efficient.

All 12V connections are individually fused, and there are 4 spare connections for future expansion, if so desired. There is a master cutoff switch.
